A Message From the Headmaster

How time has flown!  It seems like just yesterday I began serving at Dorchester Academy.  It’s hard to believe that we are well into the second half of the school year, but it’s easy to see the progress that has been made in these few, short months.

During the 2009-2010 school year, we have strengthened the writing program throughout the school and have improved our science curriculum and instruction.  We have installed three new science labs, one for each school division.  We have made improvements to our buildings and grounds, thanks to the many parents and supporters who have donated countless hours.

Our school is in good shape financially. We have no outstanding debt and are operating well within our budget for this school year.

Plans are underway to add SmartBoard interactive technology in classrooms at each level before the end of the school year.    Next year, we plan to continue improving technology across the school .    One improvement to technology will be the adoption of Power School as our school administration program.  This web-based software will allow teachers to easily input grades from home and for parents and students to access grades and assignments as soon as the teacher enters the information.

As we begin to think about next year, let me encourage you to invite others to share in the exciting changes at Dorchester Academy.  Please invite prospective students and parents to attend our Open House on Sunday, March 14, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.   Our students and our parents are our best assets.  Your support is imperative if our school is to continue to thrive.

Finally, I encourage you to continue to use www.dorchesteracademy.org for information about upcoming events.  Dorchester Academy is now using Twitter to communicate with its parents and students.  You can sign up to receive “tweets” about DA by clicking on the “Twitter” link below or at www.dorchesteracademy.org.  If you would like, you can have our “tweets” sent directly to your cell phone by selecting that option under “settings.”

Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  My door is always open.

Sincerely,

Karen H. Neil
